Memorial Day is a time for not only reflection, but thankfulness — a day to remember all of those that have sacrificed everything so we can enjoy a beautiful weekend with family and friends. Like most Americans, this weekend officially kicks off summer for us. School has let out and it’s finally warm enough to open up the pool! I decided to sit back and enjoy my three days off at home. We fired up the grill for the weekend and today — after soaking up some sun — the table is set to have a lovely dinner with the ones I cherish most.
We are all so grateful to those that have served, to the soldiers that bravely gave their lives for our freedom and to the families of these courageous men and women. JFK said it best, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
I wish you and yours a very special Memorial Day. And as you take a glimpse into how I’ve spent the weekend, I hope you’re also able to spend some valuable time with the people you love most.
Officially Pool Season
It’s been a pretty hot but wet May here in Kentucky. It was wonderful to get to spend some time at the pool this weekend! The girls looked lovely in Pomegranate’s new Spring line — we were all so excited to try out the new styles. I’m so grateful to be surrounded by so much laughter and joy!
We spent a lot of the weekend outside, so at the end of the holiday I wanted to get everyone back into feeling a little more routine. I thought eating at our kitchen nook for a quiet family meal would wind down the weekend perfectly. I still wanted to keep it festive, so I chose muted tones of red, white and blue — adding to mood of tranquility. Peaches seemed a perfect centerpiece as I can leave them there tonight for the kids to easily grab in the morning as a snack. I love using practical items as decor, so they don’t go to waste.
I’m making juicy burgers on the grill for dinner, so these larger napkins are a great choice. You won’t run out of clean space to use and they keep the kids laps tidy as well. With a simple setting like this, it’s also very easy to clean up after a long weekend of activities. The vibrant place mats and pop of color in the napkin rings fill the table without a lot of effort.
Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day, everyone!
