Lemonade from Scratch
With warmer weather comes warm-weather drinks and among them, lemonade surely takes the (lemon drizzle) cake. No matter the time of day or circumstances, truly nothing tastes better on a hot day than a cool glass of lemonade.
Our favorite includes pomegranate juice and seeds, which add just the right amount of je ne sais quoi. Tart, sweet and refreshing, here’s our favorite recipe to make your own from scratch:
- 5 lemons, juiced
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup pomegranate seeds
- 3-4 cups water or sparkling water
- Add the lemon juice, honey, 1 cup water, and pomegranate seeds to the blender. Blend on high speed until smooth.
- Strain the mixture into a jug or pitcher to remove the hard parts of the pomegranate seeds, and add the remaining 3-4 cups of water or sparkling water (to your taste). Stir well.
- Serve with ice, pomegranate seeds and lemon if desired.
- Serve with lemon slices, ice, and pomegranate arils in the glass, if desired.
Garnishes and Extra Touches
While we can pretty much guarantee that you won’t want to stray too far from this recipe (it’s just that good), we’re big fans of mixing up the types of glasses you use and the garnishes utilized. Some fun options include:
Rip a few sprigs of mint and muddle them with a few ice cubes in the bottom of the glass before pouring in the lemonade. Stir to ensure the mint doesn’t stick to the bottom. Top with a fresh mint sprig.
Make it a fruity affair and slice small slits in a chunk of pineapple (skin on) and a whole strawberry. Use them to garnish the side of the glass.
For a grownup version, feel free to add a shot of vodka to the concoction for a delicious cocktail!
